Pretty design isn't enough. 7 fixes every trades site needs to start filling the calendar this month.
We audit dozens of trades websites every month. The same mistakes show up over and over, and every one of them is fixable in an afternoon.
1. The hero doesn't say what you do. Visitors should know your service, your city, and why you're different inside 3 seconds. 'Welcome to our website' is not a value prop.
2. No phone number above the fold. Your number should be visible on every page, every screen size, and tappable on mobile. A website without a phone number is like a service van with no number on it.
3. Stock photos everywhere. Real photos of your crew and real job sites beat stock by 2–3x in testing. Buy one $500 photo shoot, it pays back forever.
4. Forms that ask for too much. Every extra field drops completions ~7%. Name, phone, what they need. Done.
5. No reviews near the CTA. Stars, logos, and project counts belong next to the button, not buried on a separate page.
6. Slow on mobile. If your site takes more than 3 seconds on a phone, you're losing more than half your traffic before they even see it.
7. Weak CTA. Every page should have one clear next step. 'Get a Free Quote' or 'Free Audit' beats 'Learn More' every single time.
Fix these seven and most trades see a 30–60% lift in phone calls inside 60 days, without spending another dollar on traffic.
