Private equity is rolling up HVAC. They've got bigger budgets, but you've got the home-field advantage. Here's how to use it.
If you run an HVAC shop with 1–15 trucks, you've felt it. The new competitor down the road just got bought by a private equity group, and suddenly they're outspending you on Google Ads and putting up billboards everywhere.
Here's the truth: you can't out-spend them. But you can out-local them, and that's where the phone calls actually come from.
1. Win the Map Pack city by city. PE-backed shops centralize their marketing and try to cover huge regions with one Google Business Profile. Build one real city page for every town you cover, with local photos, real customer names, and the city in the title tag. You'll out-rank them on the queries that matter.
2. Stack real reviews weekly. PE shops chase volume; their reviews read like they were written by a chatbot. Train your techs to ask for reviews on the truck before they pull away, and reply to every one inside 24 hours. Authenticity wins.
3. Show your face. Owner-led video, even a 30-second iPhone clip from a job site, out-converts every polished corporate ad. People hire HVAC companies they trust, and trust comes from seeing the human behind the truck.
4. Lock in shoulder-season demand. Run light retargeting in March and September to your prior customers and website visitors. PE shops only fire ads up in peak season. Owning the off-season is how you get to peak season with a full calendar.
You don't need their budget. You need their playbook flipped on its head, local, human, and consistent. That's what books the phone.
